Tottenham Hotspur are seen as favourites to sign a marquee player this summer, giving new manager Thomas Frank a potential boost as the north Londoners seek to build upon their trophy-winning 2024/2025 campaign.

Frank has considerable shoes to fill after Ange Postecoglou ended the club’s long wait for a piece of major silverware.
Spurs’ historic 1-0 win against Man United in the Europa League final will live long in the memory, and while the Australian led Spurs to a torrid domestic campaign, breaking their record for most Premier League defeats in a single season (22), Postecoglou will go down in Lilywhites folklore as the manager who won their first European trophy since 1984.

Postecoglou was also a popular figure among the players, with James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Lucas Bergvall among the squad members to speak out in public defence of their former manager.
Nevertheless, with the 59-year-old now gone, and linked with a surprise MLS move to Los Angeles FC, Frank must now steady the ship and regalvanize his new squad ahead of a vital campaign where they’ll be back in the Champions League.
Chairman Daniel Levy reportedly has every intention of backing his preferred candidate to replace Postecoglou, and Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze is widely rumoured to be one of their top attacking targets.
The England international’s 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season tell just half the story of Eze’s undoubted quality. The 26-year-old was a vocal point under Oliver Glasner throughout 2024/2025, bagging the winner against Man City in their 1-0 FA Cup final win over Pep Guardiola’s side – a result which ended Palace’s history-long wait for a major trophy.
It is little wonder there are suggestions that Tottenham are ready to pay Eze’s £68 million release clause, especially considering 2024/2025 may have been Son Heung-min’s last season at Spurs, as clubs in Saudi Arabia consider poaching the club legend after 10 years in N17.
Tottenham favourites to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace
The major worry for Levy is Arsenal’s concrete interest in Eze, and there is apparently every possibility that Mikel Arteta’s side could hijack Spurs’ pursuit of the former QPR sensation.
However, despite the stiff competition for his signature, journalist Graeme Bailey has told TBR Football that Tottenham are currently leading the race for Eze, and are the “most advanced” of every team in pursuit of the “wonderful player”.
Crystal Palace's EberechiEzecelebrates with the trophy after winning the FA Cup
“Eberechi Eze is expecting to leave Crystal Palace this summer, that is no secret,” said Bailey.
“He has a release clause and Steve Parish is open to taking installments to a certain degree but any agreement will need to be reached with Palace. Eze himself has made it clear he is open to options, and a host of Premier League clubs have made contact.
“As we have reported, the most advanced are Tottenham, and we are told the player would welcome a move.
“But Arsenal have indeed made enquiries as they see him as a potential option on their left – but same with Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United, Newcastle and Aston Villa – they have all made enquiries to some extent this year.”
Tottenham Hotspur and their transfer plans for the summer window are underway, starting with the permanent signing of Mathys Tel for £30 million, but they’re by no means finished with the Frenchman.
Spurs are poised for a crucial 2025/2026 campaign back in the Champions League, and new manager Thomas Frank is tasked with building off his predecessor’s Europa League triumph in Bilbao last month.

Ange Postecoglou brought an end to the club’s 17-year wait for major silverware with their 1-0 victory over Man United, which subsequently confirmed Tottenham’s spot in Europe’s most prestigious competition for next season.
The significant financial windfall awarded to them thanks to Spurs’ Champions League qualification is set to play a “huge” role in their summer recruitment drive, and they no longer have to operate under a ‘sell to buy’ policy (Michael Bridge).

Nevertheless, a rebuild is still anticipated, with Atlético Madrid eyeing up a move for star defender Cristian Romero and club legend Son Heung-min attracting serious interest from Saudi Arabia, amid credible reports 2024/2025 could have been his last at Tottenham.
There have been suggestions in the last few months that Tottenham could even sell Pedro Porro this summer, even if these claims were before their Europa League win, with the resurgence of Djed Spence playing a role here too.
Interestingly, football.london’s Alasdair Gold has recently revealed that Spence has a long-time admirer in new head coach Frank. Brentford held a long-standing interest in the Englishman, with bids even made for him in previous summers, so Spence could be a member of the squad who stands to seriously benefit from the Dane’s arrival.
If Spurs decide they can afford to sell Porro for a substantial fee after all, despite his excellent performances towards the back end of last season, they’ll still need a new right-back to come in and rotate with Spence, especially with their hectic European fixture calendar.
Tottenham willing to "invest heavily" on Vanderson signing
According to a report from UOL, Monaco defender Vanderson is firmly on the Lilywhites’ transfer shortlist.
The Brazil international is currently being chased by Barcelona, though, who’ve intensified talks with the Ligue 1 side, and progress has been made in negotiations to lure Vanderson to the Camp Nou.
They’re counting on the 23-year-old’s preference to join the Spanish champions, with Monaco seeking a fee north of £30 million to part company with their highly-rated wing-back. However, Frank’s side could pose a real threat and hijack their deal.
Colombia's Luis Diaz in action with Brazil'sVanderson
UOL state that Tottenham are still in the running to sign Vanderson, whilst willing to “invest heavily” in his signing. Monaco also have a major incentive to sell to Spurs instead. Spanish taxes mean Monaco would lose around 15 per cent of their final sale value, but a transfer to England would mean they take a far less substantial loss in that regard.
Taking this into account, the “perfectionist” defender could be one to watch at N17.
Vanderson is a well-balanced modern full-back who has established himself as a reliable defender at Monaco since his move there three years ago. According to The Mail, Brentford actually held talks over a deal for Vanderson in 2021, so he’s a player who Frank has admired for quite a while.
Crystal Palace have now held talks with the agents of a Leeds United defender as they look to win a hotly contested race and secure his signature, according to a recent report.
Crystal Palace set for Eze fight as they identify suitable replacement
This summer looks to be another transfer window where the Eagles are going to have their work cut out in keeping hold of their best players. Palace lost Michael Olise last summer, and it is anticipated that they may find it hard to keep hold of Eberechi Eze, who is wanted by several top clubs.

It was reported last week that Eze has now told Palace chiefs that he is ready to leave Selhurst Park, as he believes this is the right time for a new challenge. Manchester United are hopeful they can sign Eze this summer, but they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who consider Eze as someone who can replace Son Heung-min.
However, both these teams appear to be behind in the race, as Premier League champions Liverpool are considered to be leading the way when it comes to signing the Englishman.
As Eze makes his feelings clear, the Premier League outfit are on the lookout for a potential replacement, and according to The Boot Room, Palace are pushing to sign Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland.
The Black Cats are demanding at least £20 million for the young star, and Palace also face the hurdle of Man United again, as they are also keeping a close eye on Bellingham heading into the summer.
Crystal Palace hold talks with agent of £60k-p/w Leeds ace
As well as looking to strengthen their midfield, the Eagles are also in the market for a new left-back, and according to TBR Football, Crystal Palace have held talks with Junior Firpo’s representatives over a move to Selhurst Park.
Firpo is coming to the end of his contract at Elland Road, and while Leeds are open to the idea of him staying beyond this season, this report states that he is looking at other options. Palace, Everton and West Ham have all made contact with Firpo’s representatives.
However, there is genuine interest from Italy and Spain, as his former club Real Betis are interested in a deal, as well as Atlético Madrid. Firpo, who earns £60,000 a week at Elland Road, has been one of Leeds’ standout performers this season, grabbing 10 assists in the Championship, which means he’s in the 99th percentile for assists as a full-back in comparable leagues.

Firpo, who has been dubbed a “leader” by Leeds boss Daniel Farke, has been with the Whites since July 2021, and during his time in England, he has played 43 games in the Premier League. He didn’t have the same effect going forward in the top flight as he did in the Championship, but the Eagles obviously feel he can improve their options in the left-back spot.
Palace took Ben Chilwell on loan in January and also have Tyrick Mitchell coming to the end of his contract, so the need for a left-back may be great this summer.
Liverpool have been in contact to sign a £40m star which has left Premier League rivals Arsenal worried.
Liverpool close in on Premier League title as Slot promises busy summer
The Reds took another big step to winning the Premier League in Arne Slot’s first season in charge following a 2-1 victory over West Ham.
Arsenal’s draw against Brentford allowed Liverpool to move points clear at the top of the table, with Virgil van Dijk netting a late winner which means the Reds can now win the title this weekend.
The news before the game was all about Mohamed Salah’s new two-year Liverpool deal, and talking regarding the news, Slot appeared to hint at a busy transfer window to make the Reds “very strong next season”.
“We have all the confidence in him that he can produce two more years than he has produced in the past seven or eight years, because of the reasons I just gave you. But also because we will make this team very strong next season. Then it’s always nice to have someone that can make a goal.
“If you want to sign new players or players who want to extend here, it is always a positive to see one of our star players over the last seven or eight years has made the choice to extend his contract.
“It also shows maybe how ambitious this club is: not only Mo, but the owners. We are really ambitious to keep performing the way this club has performed for so many years.”

Van Dijk is also expected to extend his Anfield stay with a new two-year deal of his own, and by the looks of it, Liverpool and FSG have moved for another Dutch defender.
Liverpool and FSG in contact to sign £40m Arsenal target Hato
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have been in contact over a move to sign Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. Thought to be valued at £40m amid links to the Reds, Liverpool have now acted on their interest, something which has caused concern at the Emirates.

The report adds that Arsenal have wanted Hato for a number of years and the news of Liverpool’s approach has ‘caused panic’ in north London.
Hato, who is 19 years of age, has been called “insane” in the media and can play as a left-back or centre-back. Already a senior Netherlands international, Hato is a product of the Ajax academy and has been a regular at first team level in recent seasons.

He’s featured mainly as a left-back in 2024/25 and has chipped in with a number of goal contributions with six assists and three goals. Now, a move to England could be on the cards for the teenager, and by the looks of it, Liverpool and Arsenal will do battle in the transfer market following their title race.

India have looked far better balanced since she took over the gloves, and her keeping is now matching up to her hitting
Annesha Ghosh09-Mar-2022India teen Richa Ghosh is no stranger to firsts. Especially at World Cups.On March 8, 2020, she became the first-ever concussion substitute in a T20 World Cup final. Two years later, during India’s 2022 ODI World Cup opener against Pakistan, she became the first wicketkeeper to effect five dismissals on debut at a women’s 50-over global event. The feat is commendable for any 18-year-old, let alone one making just her eighth ODI appearance. Ghosh the keeper had till then been known more for her batting pyrotechnics. Her first impact with the gloves has left many impressed. One of them is her India and Bengal team-mate Jhulan Goswami.”Richa has taken responsibility as a wicketkeeper,” says Goswami. “She’s improving day by day, and her batting ability – you know she is even able to hit big sixes, she can score fast… So I think in our team – she will give us a lot of volume [value] because you are getting one more allrounder, a batting allrounder.”That Ghosh, who counts MS Dhoni among her idols, is keeping wicket at this World Cup is itself extraordinary. To understand why, we must go back in time.Playing as a specialist batter in March 2021, Ghosh had a horrid time in the field in the second T20I against South Africa in Lucknow. By the end of the match, she was tongue-tied and in tears, fielding at short fine leg, when the last of her many fielding errors on the night handed South Africa a series-sealing last-ball win. And this wasn’t a one-off. She had let a ball slip through for four, at point, at a critical juncture of South Africa’s chase in the previous match.
In domestic cricket, Ghosh had dabbled in keeping and bowled medium-pace for her state side, Bengal. But, with more established keepers around, Bengal mostly played her as a batting allrounder.
Ghosh had only played four international matches – all T20Is – before that nightmarish evening in Lucknow. But she had done enough already to show why India needed her hitting skills in an otherwise relatively sedate line-up. What to do about her heavy legs in the field, though? That’s where Ghosh’s multi-faceted talents came into play. Smriti Mandhana, the stand-in T20I captain in the series, retained Ghosh for the third T20I, but handed her the gloves. The incumbent in that series, Nuzhat Parween, and longtime first-choice limited-overs keeper Taniya Bhatia, one of the best with the gloves in the women’s game, had both struggled to make a mark with the bat. India’s balance, as a result, had been shaky. Entrusting Ghosh with keeping duties, despite her having no prior experience of it in international cricket, was a risk the team was willing to take to address this.In domestic cricket, Ghosh had dabbled in keeping and also bowled medium-pace for her state side, Bengal. But with more established keepers around, Bengal mostly played her as a batting allrounder.”In the absence of wicketkeeping opportunities, she would do well as a bowler because she is tall and one of the rare hit-the-deck kind of bowlers in women’s cricket in our country,” Bengal head coach Rituparna Roy says. “She has a fairly strong grounding in all three skills, so Bengal’s teams has used her wicketkeeping and bowling based on match-by-match requirements.”In that final T20I against South Africa, Ghosh claimed a straightforward caught-behind of Sinalo Jafta for her first keeping dismissal in India colours.”Once she got that clarity from the Indian team management that she is being looked at as a wicketkeeping choice, Richa started working harder on her keeping in the Bengal set-up, too, and kept wicket more regularly for the Bengal senior team,” Roy says. She adds that Ghosh took up fitness routines to improve her agility and offset some of the disadvantages her height poses.During the bilateral series against New Zealand, right before the World Cup, Ghosh struck the fastest ODI fifty by an India Women – off just 26 balls•Getty ImagesOn the tour of England that followed the South Africa series, Bhatia kept wicket during the one-off Test and the three ODIs. But her lean run with the bat in white-ball cricket opened the door for Ghosh to take over the gloves in the T20Is. Ghosh made an impact almost instantly. In the eighth over of the first T20I, she took the lead in convincing captain Harmanpreet Kaur to use the DRS when an appeal for caught-behind against Danni Wyatt was turned down. The result: a big spike on UltraEdge, and off went Wyatt.Across the three T20Is, Ghosh was involved in seven dismissals and made 28 lower-middle-order runs off 21 balls. A big affirmation of her rapid evolution as keeper came less than two months later, in the 50-over warm-up game on the tour of Australia, when she effected four dismissals, including the wily stumping of Ellyse Perry off pacer Pooja Vastrakar. Bhatia was no longer a sure-shot inclusion in ODIs.India had every reason to try Ghosh out in the 50-over format. If successful, her T20I batting credentials could offer India respite from the dearth of runs down the order, that too with the ODI World Cup just around the corner. And Ghosh wasted no time in taking her chance. An unbeaten 29-ball 32 at No. 7 on ODI debut, followed by a 50-ball 44 at No. 5 that anchored a 76-run stand with Mandhana, effectively shut the door out on Bhatia. By the end of the Australia tour, her selection as first-choice keeper for the tour of New Zealand – where she would go on to hit the fastest ODI fifty by an India Women player – and the ODI World Cup had become a foregone conclusion.According to ODI captain Mithali Raj, Ghosh’s “good game sense” – much like Dhoni’s – is a standout feature of her glovework. “There are many times I’ve seen her involvement on the field. That is also a great quality at such a young age,” Raj told during the New Zealand series. Asked about Ghosh’s future, Goswami puts it simply: “We all are looking forward [to it].”That future, if her start to the World Cup is anything to go by, could be very bright.
Shohei Ohtani this, Shohei Ohtani that. The Dodgers’ two-way superstar is rightfully getting all the praise for the myriad ways Los Angeles can use him in Saturday’s winner-take-all Game 7 for the World Series title. But, with the season on the line for both sides, the Blue Jays can break out all the stops, too.
Toronto’s rookie righthander Trey Yesavage has been one of baseball’s best stories this year. He started Games 1 and 5 of the World Series, highlighted by his 12-strikeout performance in the latter where he threw seven innings of one-run ball to help the Jays to a win, taking a 3-2 lead in the series.
It all comes down to Saturday, though. Max Scherzer will toe the rubber for Toronto against Ohtani for L.A. in a matchup every baseball fan is eager to see. If Toronto wants to go to their rookie star on short rest, he’d certainly be open to it.
“I’m not sure, I haven’t heard anything from the people that make that decision,” Yesavage said Friday night when asked about his availability for Game 7 via CityNews’ Lindsay Dunn. “But I’ll be ready if my name’s called.”
If called upon, he’d be pitching on three days rest after throwing 104 pitches Wednesday. But, this is Game 7 of the World Series, and Yesavage wants to do what it takes to help his team earn the franchise’s first title since 1993.
Things are not going well for manager Stephen Vogt and the Cleveland Guardians.
The Guardians, once battling the Detroit Tigers for first place in the AL Central, have plummeted to fourth place as they stumble on an ongoing nine-game losing streak. Cleveland has been shut out four times and has failed to score more than two runs six times during its nine-game skid.
Perhaps in an attempt to lighten the mood Friday during Cleveland's 2-1 loss to Detroit, Guardians TV cameras captured associate manager Craig Albernaz tossing sunflower seeds onto his buddy, manager Stephen Vogt. In that moment at least, Vogt wasn't having it.
The Guardians TV cameras panned away from Vogt after the exchange, and the broadcasters on the mic had a chuckle about it.
If Vogt looks a bit stressed out, it's because, well, he probably is.
In addition to the nine-game losing skid that has the Guardians 12.5 games back in the division and five games out of a playoff spot, Cleveland pitcher Luis Ortiz was placed on leave earlier this week due to an MLB betting investigation.
A long skid and a controversy in the clubhouse? That'll have any skipper on edge. And a handful of sunflower seeds to the face probably don't help the cause.
The Guardians will try to snap their nine-game losing streak Saturday in a rematch against the Tigers at Progressive Field.
