The Liverpool defender celebrated his 26th birthday while on England duty ahead of their Nations League fixtures over the coming week. At the Three Lions' base at St George's Park, Real Madrid ace Bellingham helped put together a birthday surprise for his good pal Trent – with the former jumping out at the latter when called down to see what was in store for him.

Behind a big cut-out of Trent, Bellingham was ready to pounce on his England team-mate.

In the clip, the former Borussia Dortmund star was heard saying: "[I've been waiting] about 20 minutes. He just text me saying he's coming."

When Arsenal's Bukayo Saka came into view and asked what was going on, Bellingham replied: "Trying to scare Trent. We've been planning it all morning."

When Trent finally appeared, Bellingham jumped out from his hiding place and tried to startle him, before laughing. The pair embraced and posed for a photo, too.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The pair will hope to help England in their Nations League games against Greece and Finland. The Three Lions have won both of their matches so far, as have Greece, so they will want to beat Ivan Jovanovic's team to try and come top of their group.

Man Utd eyeing £86m star who’s an even bigger wonderkid than Mainoo

Now that the 2023/24 Premier League season is complete, Sir Jim Ratcliffe can finally undertake his first transfer window as Manchester United owner.

It’s clear that wholesale changes will occur at the club after an underwhelming season, with only a select few safe from being put up for sale.

However, as players depart, others must arrive, but this time around, it’s been reported that younger players will be prioritised over ready-made superstars.

With that in mind, there is a potential summer signing who could very well be an even bigger wonderkid than Kobbie Mainoo.

Man Utd eye up promising defender

According to a report from journalist Graeme Bailey, Man United are eyeing a move for the highly-rated Jorrel Hato.

Having scouted the defender for some time, he’s become a player that the Red Devils admire and could look to sign this summer.

However, they won’t be alone in their bid to sign Hato, with Arsenal also interested in acquiring his services and in pole position to do so.

In order to sign the Ajax ace, a report – via TEAMTalk – in March stated that the club will demand a huge £86m, which could be a stumbling block for both Premier League sides.

Why Hato could be a bigger talent than Mainoo

Mainoo’s rise to becoming a consistent first-team starter this season has been a joy to watch, arguably one of the best moments to have occurred over the campaign.

The 19-year-old midfielder has been absolutely immense over his 24 Premier League starts, showing the maturity and mentality of a seasoned professional.

Just six months ago, Mainoo was slowly announcing himself to the world, but after scoring three wonderful Premier League goals, there’s a genuine chance that he’s on the plane to Germany with England this summer.

Hato is also a player who’s followed an identical path to first-team glory as Mainoo, stepping up for a struggling side and performing at an extremely high level despite being just 18 years old – one year the United midfielder's junior.

As you can see by the table above, Hato is already performing at such a high level, which is completely remarkable considering his age.

The left-footed defender has started 33 matches in the Eredivisie this season – more than Mainoo – operating in three different roles: at centre-back, at left-centre back in a three, and as a left-back.

It’s clear from the statistics that Hato is a fantastic technician, boating incredible passing range and accuracy, which is why he’s been labelled as “magnificent” by football scout Jacek Kulig.

On top of that, he’s a dominant defender who’s not afraid to enter duels, taking on a proactive approach that would suit a team that opts for a high line, as shown by his tackles, interceptions, and balls recovered.

Furthermore, not only has the number four developed into a consistent key player for Ajax, but he’s taken on the responsibility of the captain’s armband this season, which highlights how much he’s valued as a talent. Not even Mainoo can manage that.

To be performing at an even higher standard than two of United’s key centre-halves this season just proves how incredible he truly is, and he could just be an even bigger prospect than Mainoo.

But one thing is crystal clear: Man United must do all they can to sign Hato this summer.

Everton were rinsed by Benitez signing who cost £585k per goal

Erratic spending has been one of Everton's biggest downfalls in recent years, plunging the club into financial ruin, which has contributed to major off-the-field issues.

Big-money additions and huge wages are the two contributing factors, with multiple players within the current first-team pocketing a huge incoming despite their lack of impact at Goodison Park.

Andre Gomes and Dele Alli both earn at least £100k-per-week, via Capology, despite the latter not featuring for Sean Dyche's side at all during the 2023/24 campaign.

Despite the duo's extortionate weekly wages, many other players in years gone by have bled the club dry – further contributing to the club's current woes.

One player in particular failed to make a huge impact on Merseyside, with injuries having a huge impact on his time with the Toffees.

Andros Townsend's career at Everton

Former Crystal Palace attacker Andros Townsend arrived at Goodison Park on a free transfer in 2021, as a relatively risk-free addition providing vital squad depth and Premier League experience.

Before his move to Merseyside, the Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate had accumulated 243 appearances in England's top flight, joining the likes of Alli and Asmir Begovic in arriving at Everton that summer under Rafa Benitez's watch.

The winger made 21 appearances in the Premier League during his first campaign at the club, scoring three times, but it was cut short after multiple injuries – including one setback that would end his time with the Toffees.

He suffered a broken foot four months into his stint, ruling him out for a month, before suffering an ACL injury three months later that would rule him out for 14 months – leaving the club at the end of his two-year contract following a brutal time with setbacks.

With money being tight at Goodison, the 32-year-old was released at the end of the 2022/23 season, a campaign in which he failed to make a single appearance, with the club needing to clear his weekly wage off the bill.

How much Andros Townsend earned at Everton

Upon his move to the club, he agreed a deal that would see him earn £40k-per-week, as per Capology – a deal that would take home a huge figure despite his lack of impact.

The winger pocketed a total of £2.06m a season, taking his total earnings over his two seasons to £4.1m – a decent chunk given his injury troubles at Goodison – while he also cost £585k per goal after scoring just seven times in total.

Whilst he cost the club nothing initially after arriving on a free from Palace, the Benitez signing backfired with his wages not reflected by his game time within the Toffees' squad.

With Townsend now featuring in the Premier League for Luton Town this season, it is great to see the former Everton man finding his feet elsewhere, but his time on Merseyside was a disaster with the club making the right call in offloading him last summer.

Free transfer: Celtic looking to sign "outstanding" former Rangers player

Celtic have identified a new transfer target ahead of the summer window, with the player in question about to become a free agent.

Celtic transfer rumours

Behind the scenes, the Hoops leadership are preparing for what could be another busy summer, while Brendan Rodgers and his side are currently fully focused on winning the Scottish Premiership title ahead of Rangers.

Bad news for Oh as Celtic prepare bid to sign "sensational" £5m star

The Hoops are reportedly keen to tie the centre-forward up on a permanent deal.

ByDan Emery May 9, 2024

At least three new signings could be made ahead of the 2024/25 season, with a goalkeeper, winger and striker wanted. A replacement for the retiring Joe Hart is at the top of the agenda, with the likes of Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, Trabzonspor star Ugurcan Cakir, Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson and Werder Bremen colossus Michael Zetterer all linked as possible targets.

Middlesbrough shot-stopper Tom Glover also appears to be of interest, but a new name has emerged in the last 48 hours, one that began his career across Glasgow.

Celtic keen on signing Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly

According to The Daily Mail, Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly is now on Celtic’s list of summer targets. The report states that Kelly, who is set to be available for free this summer, is well known to Celtic and former Scotland goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.

The 28-year-old came through the Rangers academy and was on the books as a professional at Ibrox between 2015-2018 before permanent spells with Livingston, Queens Park Rangers and now Motherwell.

He has been a regular at Fir Park, with Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell backing Kelly to earn a place in Steve Clarke’s EURO 2024 Scotland squad, recently saying: “He has been involved in all those squads. He is somebody that has been involved in Scotland. I would love to think and hope, I know I am biased in this one, that he has done enough to keep his place and be a part of that group who are travelling to Germany in the summer.”

After making his 150th consecutive appearance for Motherwell, Kettlewell also added: “It is a great landmark and it is continuous as well. I don’t think there has been a break in that and sometimes that might not be the case with goalkeepers.

“To my mind, that is phenomenal. He was outstanding against Aberdeen. He did have to make a few saves when we were down to 10 men but you could see how proactive he is in being that leader and captain. He tried to drag us back into the game. Some people will argue that it can’t come from a goalkeeper but when you see his body language and what it means to him. He had another really good impact on our side on Saturday.”

A cut-price move to Celtic Park could therefore be one to watch following this update, although there is also interest in Kelly from sides in England, so the Hoops may need to act relatively quickly.

The English midfielder was on the verge of completing a transfer to Atletico after the Spanish side and Chelsea agreed on a transfer deal worth £34 million (€39.3m/$43.1m). Accordingly, the player reached Madrid five days ago to undergo his medical, however, now reports that the Blues have asked Gallagher to return to London amid the risk of the deal collapsing at the last moment.

Complications arose after Samu Omorodion's move to Stamford Bridge collapsed and it stalled progress on the Gallagher deal. As per the latest reports, Atletico are also currently in talks with Chelsea over sending Joao Felix back to Stamford Bridge. The Spanish club will have to make a sale before they can fund the transfer for Gallagher.

DID YOU KNOW?

Per Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League giants will treat the two transfer transactions separately and Felix could move back to Stamford Bridge for an initial fee of £40million (€46/$50m). However, the player will have to take a significant pay cut to fit into Chelsea's wage bill.

Per multiple reports, the Blues have agreed to sell Gallagher to Atletico Madrid for a transfer fee of €40m (£34.1m). The English midfielder, who verbally agreed to join the Spanish club, is all set to travel to Madrid on Monday to formally complete his move.

The sale of Gallagher – a boyhood Chelsea fan and an academy graduate – did not go down well with the fans who slammed the club owners Todd Boehly and Co. on social media.

A fan named Otunba wrote on X while responding to Fabrizio Romano's post about the transfer, "Chelsea owners will regret this."

A handle named Crusz United reiterated the sentiment as he wrote, "Chelsea might regret losing Conor Gallagher."

A fan named John Osaigbovo accused Boehly and Co. of making money out of the club instead of focusing on rebuilding the team as he wrote, "The entire Chelsea family will regret letting Conor Gallagher leave. The new owners are here for business sake and not interested in reshaping the club."

A fan, with the handle named FPL Side Net Podcast, wrote, "I hope Conor absolutely smashes it over there. His treatment by the club has been nothing short of deplorable. For someone who did everything he could in his time to be treated as a commodity to balance books says more about the current ownership."

Jeff, on the other hand, wrote, "The @ChelseaFC management is doing things in an unprofessional manner. This is not the legacy of our club! Conor Gallagher did not want to leave his boyhood club but you forced him to do so because of money! Boehly, Stewart and Winstanley are big mistakes in this great club!"

The midfielder is believed to have rejected a new contract at Stamford Bridge, where he was told he would be a squad player under new head coach Enzo Maresca. The terms failed to impress him and he decided against signing the new deal. He took a last-minute decision just before the deadline that was set by Atletico for the transfer.

Newcastle struck gold on "phenomenal" ace who’s worth more than Trippier

Newcastle United have been extremely unlucky with injuries so far this season, with Eddie Howe's side struggling to replicate the results of last campaign.

The club achieved the unthinkable by making the Premier League's top four, with the Magpies able to compete in the Champions League this season.

Newcastle defender Fabian Schar.

However, the congested fixture schedule has taken its toll on the playing squad, with key players such as Sven Botman missing for large spells this campaign through multiple injury problems.

The Magpies have a very thin squad as it is, with the injuries to first-team members seeing Howe resort to utilising multiple youth players this season.

Lewis Miley has been the main beneficiary of the club's injury crisis, with the youngster being able to make 17 Premier League appearances for his boyhood club this season.

However, despite the 17-year-old's impact on the Magpies squad, there's another product of the Newcastle academy who has featured heavily in England's top-flight this season.

Elliot Anderson's stats in the Premier League this season

21-year-old attacker Elliot Anderson, who joined the Newcastle academy at the age of eight, has impressed at St James' Park this season under Howe.

Anderson spent the 2021/22 season on loan at League Two side Bristol Rovers, with the Scotsman reaching 13 goal contributions in his 21 league outings – prompting the Magpies boss to keep him at the club last season.

He's progressed brilliantly in a short period, with Anderson featuring in the Champions League earlier in the season – a huge achievement for a player of his age.

Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson.

The youngster has gone on to feature 11 times in the Premier League during the Magpies' injury-hit spell, with Anderson coming away with an assist in the 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United earlier in the season.

However, the emerging gem has struggled with an injury of his own in recent months, with the former Bristol Rovers loanee being on the sidelines since October with a back problem.

Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson.

Anderson returned in the 3-0 win over Wolves at St James' a couple of weeks ago, with the Scotsman forward also coming off the bench in the 3-2 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Elliot Anderson's market value in 2024

Despite his lack of game time in 2024, the 21-year-old's market value has skyrocketed with Anderson having the potential to be a huge asset in the years ahead for the Magpies.

As per Transfermarkt, the "phenomenal" youngster, as dubbed by former Rovers teammate Alex Rodman, currently has a market value of £11m, a figure that is higher than key first-team member and captain Kieran Trippier, with the 33-year-old now only worth £9m, despite registering ten league assists this season.

Anderson's rapid rise has seen his value increase from £6.8m – a huge jump of 63% over the last nine months despite his injury struggles this campaign.

With key players such as Callum Wilson and Joelinton missing until the end of the season, the 5 foot 10 dynamo has a brilliant opportunity to get consistent first-team minutes to further his development.
