West Ham fans buzzing over Carvalho update

Flocking to Twitter, many West Ham United fans have been left pleading for the signing of Fulham forward Fabio Carvalho after an update from reliable in-the-know insider ExWHUemployee.

Hammers boss David Moyes is thought to be keen on the 19-year-old Championship starlet alongside a host of other Premier League clubs, with Southampton, Tottenham and Liverpool also said to be watching on (TEAMtalk).

Fulham hold fears that he has already agreed to move away from Craven Cottage, with the talented teenager still yet to pen a contract extension in west London (TEAMtalk).

As things stand, the winger can leave as a free agent in the summer, and Ex believes that West Ham could well be in contention.

According to the insider, via his West Ham Way website, Carvalho is personally seen by Moyes as an alternative to long-time target Jesse Lingard, whose apparent recent comments about his future caused some consternation among the east London fan base.

While a move is more likely in the summer when the 19-year-old is a free agent, ExWHUemployee refuses to rule out the possibility of a late January swoop, believing that the story ‘could change’.

West Ham fans plead for Carvalho…

Taking to Twitter, many West Ham fans have pleaded with the club to sign the talented teenager after this insider claim, and it’s not hard to see why.

Dubbed a ‘very exciting’ player by one-time Premier League Golden Boot winner Kevin Phillips, Carvalho’s eight goals and two assists in 17 Championship appearances for Fulham highlight his sky-high potential. For a cheaper fee or on a Bosman in the summer, this potential move is certainly enough to excite the Irons faithful.

Leeds United: Big update on Raphinha

Leeds United have had an extremely tricky season under the stewardship of Marcelo Bielsa.

They are near the foot of the Premier League table and have won just once in their last eight fixtures.

With that in mind, the January transfer window appears to be coming round in the nick of time.

What’s the word?

Leeds head into the winter market in a spot of bother and with the potential of losing their star man Raphinha.

The Brazilian has been electrifying again this term and as a result, has fielded interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

Indeed, rumours in the build-up to Christmas suggested that he was close to joining Bayern Munich.

Yet, in a seven-word update on the situation on Boxing Day, Phil Hay provided news that will no doubt delight Leeds supporters.

He took to Twitter to say: “Leeds have had no contact from Bayern.”

Fans buzzing

The fact that Raphinha doesn’t appear to be on the verge of heading to Germany is likely to come as music to the ears of the Elland Road faithful.

After all, with Patrick Bamford having played just once since September due to injury, the Brazil international has become Leeds’ chief goal scorer and creator.

He has been nothing short of outstanding since signing for a bargain £17m in the summer of 2020, bagging 14 goals and registering ten assists.

Nine of those involvements have come this term with Raphinha now the Premier League’s joint-fourth top scorer this season with eight.

He is the only player in the squad to beat the goalkeeper on more than two occasions this term so to lose him next month would be a devastating blow to their chances of staying up.

Of course, a team may still come in for the 25-year-old but at the moment, an exit looks more unlikely according to Hay.

Considering Leeds are so up against it right now, keeping him at least until the end of the campaign will be a huge boost for Bielsa whose job is under increasing pressure in Yorkshire.

Wolves linked with Benoit Badiashile

Wolves are interested in signing young Monaco centre-back Benoit Badiashile in the January transfer window, according to a new report.

The Lowdown: Badiashile an exciting prospect

The 20-year-old has emerged as an exciting player in Ligue 1, making nine starts in the league and enjoying a pass completion rate of 88.5%. He has also averaged 4.3 aerial duel wins per game in the Europa League this season, which is more than any Wolves player has managed in the Premier League.

Badiashile appears to be a man in demand, and Molineux could potentially be his next destination.

The Latest: Wolves linked with move

According to Sky Sports News [via Talking Wolves on Twitter], Wolves are interested in making a move for the Frenchman, as Bruno Lage looks for centre-back reinforcements.

The £25.2m-rated defender’s current Monaco deal expires in the summer of 2024.

The Verdict: Ideal centre-back alternative

Central defence does look like one area where an addition would be welcome at Wolves this month, with too much reliance on the availability of Max Kilman, Conor Coady and Romain Saiss. Indeed, the latter is currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Willy Boly would invariably be a strong backup for the trio but he continues to be plagued by medical issues, highlighting the need for a new signing at centre-back.

At 20, Badiashile would be considered a long-term acquisition who could fill in when required this season before hopefully growing into a key figure at Molineux over the next few years.

Everton eye Norwich ace Aarons

Some Everton fans have been left buzzing over some transfer news involving Max Aarons.

As per a report from earlier in the week by Calciomercato, which has since been shared by EFC DAILY on their Twitter page, the Goodison Park faithful are one of a number of clubs who are ‘very interested’ in signing the Norwich City ace, along with Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund and AS Roma.

The Merseyside club are in desperate need of some cover at right-back, with Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny their only senior options.

Coleman is now 33 years of age, while Kenny has only played in a mere three games in total over all competitions so far this season.

Aarons would provide a significant upgrade to Coleman offensively, as he has averaged more shots, key passes and dribbles per match in the Premier League this term, and at just 21, is a player very much for the future, and so can be a mainstay in the Toffees team for years to come.

Will Hughes takes his chance in CPFC win

Crystal Palace returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 home victory over struggling Everton, having lost their previous three Premier League games.

Chelsea-loanee Conor Gallagher scored either side of James Tomkin’s second-half goal, with Everton’s Solomon Rondon managing a consolation for the Toffees.

Patrick Vieira opted to make a couple of changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Manchester United last weekend, handing summer signing Will Hughes a full debut in midfield.

In a game where Hughes’ fellow midfielder Gallagher scored twice, the Englishman’s performance could’ve easily been overlooked, however, he took his opportunity impressively.

The summer signing from Watford slotted into the Palace midfield expertly, completing 40 of his 43 passes, a passing accuracy of 93%.

Moreover, the 26-year-old won 61.5% of his duels and made 59 touches during his 73 minutes of action, as well as creating one big chance and therefore receiving an overall rating of 7.4/10, according to SofaScore.

In fact, the £6.3m-rated midfielder was so impressive that he came off to a standing ovation from the Palace faithful, certainly leaving an impression on the crowd at Selhurst Park.

It has certainly been a frustrating first couple of months for the former Watford man, playing just ten minutes of Premier League football prior to Sunday, having joined the South London club for a fee reportedly rising to £10m.

The recent injury to James McArthur suggested that the midfielder could’ve been in line for his long-awaited opportunity, however, Hughes had to wait even longer until Vieira gave him his chance in the place of Jeff Schlupp, who had a poor game against United last weekend.

It’s believed that McArthur will struggle to be fit in time for the Eagles’ next game at home to Southampton on Wednesday night, meaning that Hughes could be in line for a second consecutive start for Palace.

After the success of his full debut against Everton, a second start would certainly be justified.

Rangers manager news on Gio van Bronckhorst

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been left buzzing as managerial news emerged on Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Derek McInnes.

As per The Athletic, the former is now a ‘strong contender’ to replace Steven Gerrard at Ibrox and has ‘expressed his desire’ to rejoin his former club. On the other hand, McInnes – who ‘turned down’ the vacancy at the Light Blues in 2017 – is ‘not understood to be in the running’.

Van Bronckhorst has an impressive managerial CV, having guided Feyenoord to their first Eredivisie title in 18 years back in the 2016/17 season (BBC), while he also won four other major trophies with the Rotterdam club. Of course, he is also a two-time Premiership winner as a player with the Light Blues.

Meanwhile, McInnes’ CV is less convincing, with just two trophies to his name, and he has only managed St Johnstone, Bristol City and Aberdeen before.

Therefore, it is not a surprise to see so many Gers fans leaning towards the appointment of Van Bronckhorst over McInnes.

Journalist tips Guehi for the World Cup

Journalist Tom Barclay has tipped Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to be a surprise inclusion in England’s World Cup squad for Qatar 2022.

What’s the story?

The highly-rated 21-year-old has put in a string of outstanding performances for club and country after completing his big-money move over the summer, and Barclay believes he could oust one of his compatriots in Gareth Southgate’s current plans.

He tweeted: “One player I wouldn’t rule out from making a late charge to the England World Cup squad is Marc Guehi. Getting better with every game, impressing at Crystal Palace, well-liked within the system and now captain of the Under-21s.”

Crystal Palace fans surely buzzing

Conor Gallagher made his senior England debut in the 10-0 thrashing of San Marino on Monday night, and the prospect of another Palace youngster making his name on the international stage would surely leave the club’s supporters buzzing.

Since arriving at Selhurst Park via an £18m move from boyhood club Chelsea back in July, Guehi has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising young centre-backs.

As per WhoScored, the 6-foot monster has averaged 1.2 tackles per league game this season, a whopping 3.4 clearances and 0.5 blocks, highlighting his influence over proceedings for the capital club.

Despite only being an Eagles player for a few months, Guehi has already cemented his status as a crucial player for Patrick Vieira’s charges, playing every minute of their promising Premier League campaign.

His partnership with the more experienced Joachim Andersen is also beginning to flourish in the heart of defence, providing the foundations for a new-look Palace side full of excitement and attacking intent, something that was lacking under the previous regime.

And consecutive clean sheets in their last two outings are evidence that Guehi and co. are starting to put in solid defensive displays on a consistent basis too.

Whether Guehi can do enough to force himself into Southgate’s World Cup plans over the next 12 months remains to be seen, but you’d be a brave person to bet against Barclay’s prediction.

West Brom dealt major injury blow

West Bromwich Albion have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of their upcoming Championship fixture.

What’s the latest?

In recent comments cited by the West Brom website, Valerien Ismael confirmed that Grady Diangana will not be available for selection for the trip to Swansea City on Wednesday evening, as the winger is yet to recover from a hamstring injury which saw him ruled out of the 1-0 win over Birmingham City last Friday.

Speaking about the current condition of the 23-year-old, Ismael said: “Grady won’t be available for the game because he only had his first session with the group on Tuesday. It’s too close for him to be able to play. If everything goes correctly then hopefully him being available for Saturday won’t be a problem.”

Meanwhile, the Frenchman also revealed that Alex Mowatt, who was brought off midway through the second half of the Birmingham victory due to a toe injury, will be assessed prior to Wednesday’s fixture.

On the central midfielder’s fitness, the 46-year-old said: “We’ll assess Alex before the game at Swansea. We’re going to keep a close eye on things and how he is before we make a decision on him.”

Ismael will be gutted

While it is undeniable that Diangana has not been in the best form of his career this season, having scored no goals and registered just one assist over his 11 Championship appearances, the absence of the winger for the trip to Swansea will nevertheless have left Ismael gutted. The 23-year-old proved in the Baggies’ promotion-winning campaign back in 2019/20 that he undoubtedly possesses the ability to help fire the club back to the Premier League.

Indeed, over his 30 Championship appearances that season, the £9m-rated forward bagged eight goals, provided six assists and created eight big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.6 shots and making 1.4 key passes per game.

These metrics saw the £36k-per-week man earn a highly impressive seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.06, ranking him as Albion’s third-best performer throughout the campaign in question.

As such, while, as previously mentioned, the former West Ham United winger is yet to hit these heights so far this season, it is abundantly clear that Diangana can win a game in an instant for West Brom, a talent that Ismael will sorely miss on Wednesday night.

Rangers fans on Lundstram v Ross County

Many Glasgow Rangers fans have been slamming the performance of John Lundstram despite their win at home to Ross County in the Premiership.

The midfielder was guilty of dwelling on the ball for far too long after an admittedly poor pass from Ianis Hagi, which duly led to the opening goal of the game for Joseph Hungbo inside the first six minutes.

Steven Gerrard must be sick of seeing his team going behind in matches, and this was no different, although they did manage to turn it around pretty convincingly in the end to win 4-2.

Aside from his mistake, Lundstram did not have his best game in a Light Blues shirt, losing out on two of his duels, while he also failed to record a single shot on target, dribble, clearance, blocked shot or key pass. Furthermore, he lost possession of the ball three times (SofaScore).

Rangers fans slam Lundstram’s display

These Rangers fans slammed the 27-year-old’s performance on Twitter, with one supporter even going as far as to claim that he was ‘woeful’ today:

“The shape of our team is absolutely shocking, it’s so easy to play against us in the midfield. Pressing as individuals rather than as a team. And don’t get me started on Lundstram, he really is a woeful footballer.”

Raheem Sterling open to Newcastle transfer

A fresh twist has emerged on reported Newcastle transfer target Raheem Sterling regarding his thoughts on a potential move to Tyneside.

What’s the talk?

The England international has admitted that he would be open to a transfer away from Manchester City, claiming that football is the most important thing to him in life.

Sterling, who has been linked with a switch to St James’ Park, has also revealed that he has ambitions to play outside of England.

He told BBC Sport: “If there was the opportunity to go somewhere else, I would be open to it. At this moment in time, football is the most important thing to me.

“I have always had something that maybe one day I would love to play abroad and see how I meet that challenge.”

Excitement

These quotes from Sterling will surely leave Newcastle fans feeling excited, particularly following reports of the club’s interest in signing him in 2022. PIF are reportedly keen on adding a marquee addition to the squad after their takeover and the 26-year-old is one of the players they are targeting to be the poster boy of the new era on Tyneside.

Whilst the talk of a transfer to a club outside of England is not ideal, the overall message hints at a move away from Manchester City, and that could open the door for Newcastle to swoop. They could convince him to put his travel plans on hold for a few years to come and lead the Magpies into the future as part of their rebuild, potentially leaving to play in Italy, Germany or Spain further down the line.

Therefore, Sterling’s comments may leave Magpies fans hopeful that PIF could tempt him away from the Etihad Stadium in the coming months, as it has now known that he is open to leaving. Before these quotes came out, it was unclear whether or not the forward would have been interested in moving on from Pep Guardiola’s side, which could have had a big impact on Newcastle’s chances of landing him.

Over the summer, former Chelsea player and manager Frank Lampard was effusive in his praise of the former Liverpool flyer, saying: “He’s excellent, I love him as a player. He’s had a dip in form, and he’ll admit that, but what we’re seeing now is the player we’ve seen for the last three years.

“If I’m talking to a young, wannabe winger now who wants to play, he’s an example on the pitch and off the pitch. He’s had tough times, but now he’s coming through it and he looks like a man. He’s just a world-class player.”

This highlights the level of player Newcastle could be getting, with Lampard believing that Sterling is a ‘world-class’ footballer. His record of 115 goals in 302 games for Manchester City further emphasises this point and illustrates why Magpies supporters will surely be excited by the prospect of him arriving at St James’ Park.
