Spurs: Romano drops Richarlison update

Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Richarlison.

What’s the latest?

In a recent post on Twitter, the Italian journalist revealed that Tottenham are well-informed on the situation of the centre-forward, as Fabio Paratici and the Everton transfer team have discussed the potential of a deal for Brazil international during the two clubs’ negotiations for Harry Winks.

The transfer insider went on to state that the 25-year-old would be open to a move to Spurs this summer, while the journalist also suggested that the former England international could be included in any Spurs deal for Richarlison, with the Toffees reported to be demanding £50m in order to sanction the forward’s sale.

In his tweet, Romano said: “Tottenham are still well informed on Richarlison – was discussed during talks for Harry Winks to Everton. Richarlison would be open to Spurs move. Winks talks going slow, as he could be included in Richarlison talks or separated deal.”

Supporters will love Romano’s update

With it being reported that the signing of a new striker who can also operate on the left is one of Antonio Conte’s priority targets in the summer transfer window, in addition to Winks’ time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium appearing well and truly up last season, Romano’s latest update on the future of the two players is sure to be news that Spurs supporters will love.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, despite Everton’s struggles in 2021/22, Richarlison still impressed over his 30 Premier League appearances, with the £60m-rated attacker scoring 10 goals, registering five assists and creating seven big chances for his team-mates, along with taking 2.4 shots, making one key pass and completing 1.3 dribbles per game.

These returns saw the versatile striker – who can also operate from attacking midfield or on either wing – average an impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.02, ranking him as Frank Lampard’s best performer in the league last time out.

As such, should Paratici manage to save around £20m on a move for the Brazilian by including Winks – who started just eight Premier League matches under Conte’s management last term – as a sweetener, it would undoubtedly represent yet another fantastic piece of business by the Italian sporting director.

Fabrizio Romano drops update on LFC target

Liverpool have reportedly held a long-term interest in Raphinha, and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on the player’s future.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Chelsea have tabled a bid for Leeds United star Raphinha.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Romano tweeted last night: “Chelsea have already sent an official proposal to Raphinha and his agent Deco to discuss personal terms as Boehly wants to be fast to avoid problems. Work in progress.”

Following up this morning with further details:

“Raphinha – Chelsea proposal, on the table since yesterday night. Boehly wanted contract bid to be sent right after £60m agreement with Leeds. Contract offered until June 2027.”

Supporters will be gutted

With the doubt surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool beyond the 12 months remaining on his contract, Raphinha was thought to be a worthy replacement for the Egyptian star with bids from Anfield reported to be rejected so far, supporters will surely be gutted to see the Brazilian go to a Premier League rival.

The winger has been impressive with his performances for Leeds United over the last two seasons after joining the West Yorkshire club upon their promotion into the top flight in 2020.

Raphinha has scored 22 goals and delivered 13 assists during his time at his current club, with a goal contribution every 168 minutes, but it’s not just his consistent goal contributions that make him an ideal player for the future at Liverpool.

According to FBref, in the Premier League last season Raphinha ranked ninth for shots on goal (85), crosses completed (90) and shot-creating actions (119), as well as ranking seventh for key passes (65), proving that the 25-year-old is a consistent attacking threat with the potential to compete to be one of the best forwards in the league.

Liverpool will need to begin to prepare for the expected departure of Salah next summer, and if the worst-case scenario does occur, a player like Raphinha might not offer the same number of goals as the Egyptian winger, but he could surely develop in the team whilst offering a number of talents he has already displayed.

With that being said, it is now looking likely that Raphinha will make the move to Chelsea which will require FSG to look elsewhere for their potential Salah replacements ahead of next summer, something that will leave supporters rather gutted.

Gibbs-White is a Garner upgrade for Forest

Nottingham Forest have been heavily linked with signing Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White in recent weeks and the 22-year-old would arguably be an upgrade on James Garner in Steve Cooper’s side next season.

Reports have suggested that Forest, along with Everton and Crystal Palace, are interested in the £30m signing Gibbs-White following his impressive performances out on loan at Sheffield United last season.

After the loan signing of Dean Henderson from Manchester United, Forest fans have been consigned to the knowledge that Garner won’t be returning to the City Ground again next season, unless the Red Devils can be convinced to let him go permanently, which seems unlikely at this stage.

Premier League rules mean that you can only loan one player from another side and thus Cooper must look for a replacement for Garner in his midfield after the 21-year-old played a huge part in Forest’s promotion last season.

The United academy graduate would make 44 appearances in the Championship, contributing four goals and eight assists, averaging an impressive WhoScored rating of 7.09 for his performances, which were enough to establish him as a fan favourite at the club.

However, while he was undoubtedly superb, Gibbs-White enjoyed arguably a better season with the Blades, and could be a better long-term addition if he joins on a permanent deal.

The Wolves man would contribute 12 goals and 10 assists for Paul Heckingbottom’s side in the Championship, while also impressing in the playoff semi-final game at the City Ground, with WhoScored awarding him a 7.14 average rating for his performances.

While Garner is arguably better at the defensive side of the game, Gibbs-White can definitely offer more going forwards and also has far more experience in the top-flight, having made 46 appearances in the Premier League with Wolves.

Therefore, now that a move for Garner is off the table, Cooper should definitely push to bring the “outstanding” Gibbs-White to Nottingham this summer.

Dennis can be Everton’s Jarrod Bowen

Everton are interested in the signing of Emmanuel Dennis from Watford and the Nigeria international could be Frank Lampard’s own version of Jarrod Bowen should he swap Vicarage Road for Goodison Park.

Recent reports have suggested that the 24-year-old is on Everton’s list of targets as they look to strengthen their attacking options following the departure of Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur last week.

Dennis, who could cost £20m, was one of the standout performers for Watford last season as they were relegated back to the Championship and it seems as if he could be on the move after being left out of the Hornets’ pre-season trip to Austria.

The former Club Brugge man would contribute ten goals and six assists in 33 Premier League appearances for Watford, averaging a solid 6.89 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

This ranked him as the club’s best performer in the top flight last season, so it is easy to see why he is attracting Premier League interest ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, no player in Everton’s squad would contribute as many goals and assists as Dennis, which suggests that he could add some much-needed quality to Lampard’s attack should he join this summer.

If he does make the switch, he could feature as a winger in Lampard’s side, supporting Dominic Calvert-Lewin in a more central role.

According to FbRef, Dennis’ playing style as a winger is comparable to West Ham’s Bowen, with the England international ranked as the third-most similar player to the Nigerian.

The two registered very similar scores in terms of goals per 90, shot-creating actions and shots per 90 last season, which suggests that both have an eye for goals and assists.

[freshpress-quiz id=“638086″]

Considering the former Hull City man was one of the standout performers in the Premier League last term and earned himself a call-up to the England squad, Everton would do very well to have a player similar to that on their books next season.

Therefore, Lampard will surely be hoping that the Toffees can complete a deal for the “very talented” Watford man ahead of the transfer window closing.

Journalist provides Calvin Bassey update

Rangers could be set to receive a transfer windfall in the near future as the transfer race for Calvin Bassey intensifies.

What’s the word?

After a superb season for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side, it was perhaps always likely that the Nigerian would be linked with a move away from Ibrox this summer.

The 22-year-old had already excelled at left-back but looked like a transformed player in the centre of defence in the second half of the campaign, particularly impressing in Rangers’ Europa League run.

Journalist Ryan Taylor has now provided the latest update on his potential exit from Ibrox, tweeting: “Rangers keen to encourage an auction for Calvin Bassey. Ajax, who view Nigerian as Lisandro Martínez replacement, currently highest bidders. Brighton have also made an offer. Asking price: £25m but with race hotting up, any sale could surpass that figure.”

Supporters will be buzzing

Considering that the £12.6m received from Nathan Patterson’s move to Everton currently holds the record for Rangers’ most expensive departure, supporters will be delighted to hear that the Light Blues could earn in excess of £25m for Bassey.

While they will no doubt be gutted to lose such an influential player, the 22-year-old was signed for a minimal compensation fee just two years ago, so the Gers will undoubtedly make a huge profit on his sale.

It will also give Rangers the freedom to be more aggressive in the transfer window, which could be vital as they target a spot in the Champions League group stage ahead of their upcoming qualification fixtures.

Sporting director Ross Wilson, and anyone else involved in Bassey’s initial move to Ibrox, can take an enormous amount of credit for spotting his talent, while Steven Gerrard and Van Bronckhorst also played a huge part in his development.

[freshpress-quiz id=“712674″]

Supporters will be hoping that Ajax and Brighton continue to battle each other for Bassey and drive up his price even further in what will surely be a record transfer fee received for the Gers, which will hopefully be reinvested over the next few weeks.

West Ham: Ex drops Kostic update

ExWHUemployee has dropped an update on reported West Ham United transfer target Filip Kostic.

What’s the talk?

Speaking on a recent episode of The West Ham Way podcast, the club insider revealed that, should Rob Newman fail in his attempt to bring TSG Hoffenheim’s David Raum to the London Stadium this summer, the West Ham head of recruitment will turn his attention towards the 29-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt left wing-back – for whom the Bundesliga side are believed to be demanding a figure in the region of €22m (£19m) to part with this summer.

Regarding the Hammers’ interest in the Serbia international, Ex said: “[David] Moyes’ criteria for a left-back is that they can play left-back and left wing-back, and on the left of midfield if needed so that it gives us options.

“He also wants them to be good at set-plays and set-pieces, because if they’re going to replace Aaron Cresswell – who’s coming towards the end of his time at West Ham – they’re going to need someone to take set-pieces. [Raum] is the first choice, but there are numerous clubs – Newcastle [United] and ones in Germany – all looking at him.

“If we can’t get him over the line or if we can get a better deal, we’ll look at Filip Kostic. He’s a Serbian who played for our [Europa League] semi-final opponents Frankfurt and played very well. He’s more attacking than a traditional left-back, more of a left-wing back or a left midfielder, but he can play left-back. He’s also an option.”

A major coup

Considering just how impressive Kostic was for Eintracht last season, in addition to the fact that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli have all been linked with a move for the wing-back this summer, should Newman be able to get a deal for the 29-year-old over the line ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, it would undoubtedly represent a major coup for West Ham.

Indeed, over his 31 Bundesliga appearances in 2021/22, the £21.6m-rated talent was in astonishing form for Oliver Glasner’s side, scoring four goals, registering nine assists and creating 16 big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.6 shots, making 2.8 key passes and completing 0.8 dribbles per game.

These metrics saw the £43k-per-week full-back average a breathtaking SofaScore match rating of 7.25, not only ranking him as Die Adler’s best performer in the league but also as the 15th-best player in the German top flight as a whole.

The 48-cap international also caught the eye over his 12 Europa League outings last season – rather unfortunately for the West Ham faithful – bagging three goals, registering six assists and creating four big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 2.7 shots, making 2.1 key passes and completing 0.8 dribbles per fixture.

These returns saw the former VfB Stuttgart star average a sensational SofaScore match rating of 7.33 – playing a starring role in Frankfurt going on to lift the Europa League trophy, as well as seeing him named as the competition’s Player of the Season.

As such, with Moyes looking for an attack-minded wing-back to take up 32-year-old Cresswell’s mantle on the left of his West Ham defence, it is clear to see that Kostic would make a fantastic addition to Scot’s first-team squad ahead of the 2022/23 campaign – leading us to believe that Newman should do everything in his power to get a deal over the line for the 29-year-old this summer.

Tottenham interested in James Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison but his price tag is huge, reports Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

In a recent interview with GiveMeSport, transfer insider Dean Jones reported that Spurs have ‘touched base’ with the Foxes over a potential deal for the 25-year-old.

The Englishman continued to impress in the Premier League last season, producing 12 goals and eight assists in 35 appearances across the campaign.

Having already made six signings this summer, an attacking midfielder could be the final piece of the puzzle for Antonio Conte’s squad, who are looking to make a big push domestically and continentally this season.

The Latest: Taylor provides latest

Taylor believes Tottenham are interested in Maddison, but he is not sure whether the club are going to act on that interest given his rumoured price-tag.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist claimed:

“Maddison, I think there’s interest, but I don’t know how strong that interest is and whether they will actually make a move considering he would probably cost upwards of £50m.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Maddison would be a great addition

As per FBRef, when compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, Maddison ranks in the 90th percentile for non-penalty goals, in the 88th percentile for assists and in the 84th percentile for shots total.

Based on these ‘phenomenal’ (CBS reporter Adi Joseph) figures, the 25-year-old statistically compares with the likes of Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes and Heung-min Son (via FBRef), illustrating his quality in the final third.

With Spurs lacking a creative attacking midfielder, Maddison, who played a direct hand in as many goals as Lionel Messi (20) did in the league last season, could fill this void in Conte’s squad.

Whilst this may not be a cheap deal to complete, this would be a great signing for the Lilywhites.

Newcastle: Pepe would be keen on move

An update has emerged on Newcastle and their chances of landing Nicolas Pepe in the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that the winger would be keen on a switch to St. James’ Park in the coming weeks because of the club’s ambitions.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think that midtable clubs are interested in him, but I don’t think he’s interested in playing at that level of the Premier League, although Newcastle would interest him because they’re going to challenge for the top six.”

It has been reported that Arsenal want a fee in the region of £25m for the attacker, although it remains to be seen whether or not the Magpies are willing to meet their demands.

Imagine him & Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle must snap up a deal to sign the Ivorian in the coming weeks because he has the potential to form an exciting partnership with Saint-Maximin on the wings.

Both players are capable of playing on either side of the attack and they are both tricky attackers with the quality to beat opposition defenders with the ball at their feet.

In his first campaign in the Premier League in 2019/20, Pepe completed 2.3 dribbles per match as he chipped in with five goals and six assists. This came after he racked up 22 goals and 11 assists – completing 2.7 dribbles per game – in his last Ligue 1 campaign for Lille.

Talent scout Jacek Kulig previously heaped praise on the wizard, Tweeting: “Incredible composure on the ball, dribbling skills, technique and vision. He has it all to become a world-class winger. Nicolas Pépé is an amazing player. Would be a great signing for any top club.”

Saint-Maximin, meanwhile, completed 4.3 dribbles per appearance in the Premier League last term, highlighting his immense ability with the ball at his feet as he is able to glide past the opposition on a regular basis.

The gem also made an impact in the final third with five goals and five assists, which shows that he has the potential to be a match winner on his day.

Both Pepe and the Frenchman have the quality to make things happen at the top end of the pitch, whether that is by taking the ball past players or chipping in with goal contributions. Now, imagine both of them lining up in a Newcastle XI next campaign and exciting fans with their direct and skilful, play.

Wolves to make ‘last move’ for Nunes

Wolves will reportedly make a ‘last move’ for transfer target Matheus Nunes this weekend when Wanderers come up against Sporting CP in a friendly.

The Lowdown: Nunes a long-time target

Throughout this summer, Wolves have been constantly linked with bringing the midfielder to the club, with Liverpool also thought to be interested in signing him.

Nunes, who has a release clause of €60m (£51m), has been a key man for Sporting in recent years, making 33 Primeira Liga appearances last season and also forcing his way into Portugal’s team, winning eight caps to date.

Ironically, Wolves take on Sporting on Saturday evening, in what could prove to be a more important day off the pitch than on it.

The Latest: Wolves to make ‘last move’

According to Correio da Manha [via Sport Witness], Wanderers will make a ‘last move’ for Nunes this weekend, walking away from a deal if they fail to make significant progress.

Sporting are aware that it is going to be ‘hard’ to keep hold of the 25-year-old, given his potential preference for a new challenge.

[freshpress-quiz id=“398117″]

The Verdict: Make-or-break weekend

Nunes is a top-quality midfielder who could be a fantastic signing for Wolves, so it is no surprise to see them trying so hard to get their man. His pass completion rate of 86.2% in the league last season is proof of the technical ability he could bring to Bruno Lage’s side.

[freshpress-poll id=“399044″]

If Wanderers fail in their efforts to snap up the midfielder, it is vital that either a similar player comes in this summer or Ruben Neves ends up staying put.

Encouragingly, talk surrounding the Portuguese’s future has gone a little quiet of late and keeping hold of him would arguably be more significant than any new signing, Nunes included, considering he has been a fulcrum of Wolves’ midfield for five years now, making 212 appearances in total.

Aston Villa: Mings looked ‘miffed’ vs Bournemouth

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings cut a frustrated figure on the bench as his side toiled against Bournemouth on Saturday.

That’s according to Sky Sports’ live coverage from David Richardson.

The lowdown

Villa’s Premier League season got off to the worst possible start as they fell behind within two minutes at The Vitality Stadium, with Jefferson Lerma putting the newly-promoted side ahead.

Mings was almost ever-present for the Villans last season, starting 35 of their 38 Premier League matches.

But Steven Gerrard has taken the captain’s armband away from the centre-back ahead of the new season, instead handing it to John McGinn.

And he named him amongst the substitutes for the first match of the campaign as Ezri Konsa and new signing Diego Carlos got the nod.

The latest

Richardson noted that Villa were shambolic at the back in the first half and questioned whether the presence have Mings would have shored them up.

“Aston Villa are all over the place defensively,” he said. “FPL [Fantasy Premier League] managers with Lucas Digne or Matty Cash in their team will be watching through their fingers.”

The reporter then spotted an unhappy figure on the bench: “Tyrone Mings is sat on the bench looking pretty miffed. Would things be different if he was in the team?”

The verdict

You can see why Richardson raised the point.

Villa’s lack of organisation seemed to cost them for Lerma’s goal, with podcaster Dan Bardell tweeting that ‘you could see we were going to concede from that corner as soon as the ball came in’.

Perhaps the thinking was that Mings, who evidently has leadership experience, could have marshalled the troops a little more effectively.

Carlos and Konsa also somewhat struggled in the air during the game, winning just two out of seven aerial duels combined (via SofaScore).

Mings, for his part, won 64% of those battles in last season’s top-flight, so perhaps he could have helped them in this department too.
