Spurs fans delighted as Lucas Moura signs new contract

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left delighted after the club confirmed that Lucas Moura has signed a new contract at the club.

The Brazil international has penned fresh terms until 2024, keeping him at the club for another five years.

Of course, the winger enjoyed an exceptional 2018/19 campaign, scoring a barely believable hat-trick in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash with Ajax as part of 15 goals in all competitions.

Signed in January of 2018, he has made a total of 60 appearances for Spurs and could have a key role to play this season.

Indeed, the club sold Vincent Janssen to Monterrey in the transfer window and allowed Fernando Llorente’s contract to expire, leaving Harry Kane as their only out-and-out senior striker.

Lucas can play up front, however, and may be tasked with doing so by Pochettino as Spurs again look to challenge on a number of fronts in 2019/20.

And fans are delighted that Lucas will be sticking around for a little while yet.

Celtic target Fraser Forster has all the hallmarks of a brilliant signing

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Neil Lennon will enquire about the availability of Southampton stopper and former Celt Fraser Forster, according to The Scottish Sun.

What’s the story?

Scott Bain could be out for as long as two months after sustaining a thumb injury, and Lennon has wasted little time in searching for a replacement. With Craig Gordon coming back from injury and youngster Conor Hazard untested, the club are expected to move quickly if they feel Bain’s injury is serious.

Lennon was the manager that brought Forster on loan to Parkhead back in 2010, before signing him permanently in 2012. The giant keeper enjoyed a fruitful spell at the Celts, winning three league titles and two Scottish Cups in his four years in Glasgow.

Despite starting well at Southampton after his move from Celtic Park, the six-time England international has fallen behind Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn in the Saints pecking order, making a deal more likely.

Timely return

Bain and Gordon have filled the Celtic fans with doubt thanks to some shaky displays of late, so the arrival of a former fan favourite would likely go down well with the supporters.

The two keepers don’t look capable of playing for a club with realistic ambitions of making the Champions League group stages more often than not. So, the interest in Forster is timely as the club can still secure qualification to the Europa League, which is not a bad consolation prize.

Is Neymar a footballing genius or overhyped brat? Fans discuss whether they’d want him at their club in the video below…

The Celts need an able stopper and Forster has shown, through the majority of his career, to be just that. Barring the last 18 months, the keeper has been a fixture at both Southampton and Celtic, which is no mean feat when you consider the successes of the two clubs with him between the posts.

While the cliche ‘never go back’ is a concern here, a Premiership comeback wouldn’t be unprecedented. Forster can look to Allan McGregor’s successful return to Rangers as an example of a once-great ‘keeper returning to their former club after an up-and-down spell down South and doing well.

A return to Parkhead could be perfect for all involved, the Saints get an unneeded player off the wage bill, Celtic get a top-class keeper and Forster will finally get to play again after 18 months of watching on as a reserve.

Aston Villa’s Matt Targett posts encouraging injury update on Instagram

This post should be encouraging for a number of Villa supporters. Targett says that he will be working hard to get back as soon as possible, and he accompanied his post with two emojis that read ‘back soon’, presumably implying the injury is nothing serious.

Hopefully he will be back in first-team action sooner rather than later, as Smith certainly won’t mind the headache of having two quality players fighting for one position.

Arsenal will do better this season says Thomas Vermaelen

[ad_pod ]

Former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has said that Arsenal will be better this season than in the previous campaign.

What did he say?

In their first season under a manager other than Arsene Wenger for over 20 years, Arsenal had a disappointing term last time around. They finished fifth in the Premier League, meaning they failed to qualify for the Champions League, whilst they were humiliated by Chelsea in the Europa League final.

They have brought in several new names during the recent transfer window, and 33-year-old Vermaelen, who currently plays for Vissel Kobe in Japan, believes they will improve this campaign. He said:

“Arsenal have improved with the players they got in the summer. I think they did a good job in the transfer market.

“It’s a new Arsenal but it doesn’t mean it is going to be worse than last season or difficult now.

“Of course a few players have to adapt but I think there is a good manager there (Unai Emery) who wants to play football. I expect them to do better than last year.”

“They have the bigger mentality” – Spurs fans come to blows after the North London Derby in the video below…

The perfect time to get back into the top four

It has not been the best few years for Arsenal. They have not qualified for the Champions League, which is where the club want to be, in each of the past three campaigns. Getting into Europe’s premier club competition is once again the objective this term, and it would be the improvement that Vermaelen alluded to.

Whilst Manchester City and Liverpool are still the top dogs in England, the Gunners have the perfect opportunity to jump ahead of the rest of the sides competing just below. Out of Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal, the sides who should be competing for the top four, the latter have had the best start to the season as they lay in fifth place. Chelsea and Manchester United have won just one game each so far this term, and Spurs were eventually outplayed by their north London rivals last weekend despite taking a 2-0 lead.

As such, Vermaelen may just be right with his prediction. Unai Emery and co have already stolen a small march on their competitors – now it’s just a case of holding onto that advantage.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour shares hilarious anecdote about Emmanuel Petit

[ad_pod ]It’s inherently British to be polite. We automatically apologise when we’re barged into, when someone stands in our way, or when someone spills something on us. We feverously thank people for the most trivial of things like opening a door or standing to one side to let us past in the hallway; ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ are two of our most common phrases, or they should be, anyway.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It almost feels like an attack on our person when someone isn’t equally as civil. For me, not being thanked by fellow motorists after waiting patiently for them to pass incites a fit of expletive-filled rage unmatched by anything else in this world. Time to wash my mouth out with soap and all that.

So with all that being said, we understand why Ray Parlour and his Arsenal cronies at the time felt slightly aggrieved when midfield rock Emmanuel Petit didn’t pay them the courtesy of a simple ‘good morning’ in response to their own well wishes…

Man Utd fans react to Victor Lindelof’s superb volley for Sweden

[ad_pod ]

Having arrived from Benfica back in 2017, Victor Lindelof has had a mixed career at Manchester United so far.

The 25-year-old initially struggled with the adaptation to English football, but has emerged as one of the Red Devils’ better defenders over the past 12 to 18 months.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has used him as Harry Maguire’s first-choice centre-back partner this season, and the 6 foot 2 star has taken his promising early form into international duty with Sweden.

Lindelof struck a superb volley against the Faroe Islands on Thursday as his country registered a comfortable 4-0 win in their EURO 2020 qualifying clash.

After seeing the 25-year-old’s fine strike, United fans took to Twitter to hail the centre-back.

Many supporters of the Manchester side felt Marcus Rashford would have missed an opportunity like that, and suggested the England international “would have blasted that one into the stands”.

Some Red Devils fans even urged Lindelof to bring that kind of goal-scoring form back to Old Trafford, whilst others joked he should be played further forward from now on.

Barcelona move for Mbappe could overload the squad with attacking superstars

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Even though the talk of the summer very much revolved around Neymar, Mundo Deportivo have now come out with a report stating that the board is still divided on that matter because some of them would rather go for Kylian Mbappe.

But looking at their financial situation, if such a transfer really is in the plans, a huge clean-up could be on the horizon.

What’s the word, then?

Mundo Depotivo claim there’s an internal debate going on at Barcelona at the moment and the decision on whether Blaugrana should chase Neymar or Mbappe, who scored 39 goals in all competitions last season, has not yet been made. The problem seems to be that some of the members are more keen on the 20-year-old superstar as they see him as younger, a better goal-scorer and also a name that would not divide the fans.

Watch Spanish Football Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Of course, Mbappe is one for the present and future as the Frenchman is only 20 years of age, while Neymar will be 28 next year. The Catalan outlet also points out that this operation would be extremely difficult since Mbappe has a contract until 2022 and the player is liked by Real Madrid as well, so the competition could be fierce.

Not to mention that Barcelona also had a chance to go for him in 2017 when Neymar left, but they chose Ousmane Dembele instead. But looking at their squad right now, there would hardly be any place for Mbappe unless a major clean-up was done beforehand.

Galacticos

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, Antoine Griezmann and then, Mbappe to top it all off. Surely, the problem with this is a glaring one. Firstly, can Barcelona actually afford to have all those people in the books in the first place? Sure, Coutinho is currently on loan at Bayern Munich so his future at the Blaugrana is more than just under question.

But even without the ex-Liverpool man, this kind of squad wouldn’t really be sustainable. The other problem is that those are all high-profile superstars who occupy similar positions. Getting them into the same lineup would be a nightmare, if not impossible, even.

All of that leads us to believe the Barcelona board, if they are truly committed to trying to get Mbappe, would have to offload some major pieces in the not so distant future. Even if they’d prefer to keep all of the aforementioned talents in the same squad, they just might be forced to sell up nonetheless.

Either way, with all of those £100m+ players piling into their squad, Barcelona are slowly but surely turning into their worst enemies – the Galacticos.

Leeds United dreamer Erling Haaland’s incredible statistics revealed

[ad_pod ]Erling Haaland, son of Alf-Inge, is quite the player. The highly-rated teenager became a member of an exclusive group of individuals on Tuesday night with a first-half hat-trick on his debut in the competition. Alongside Real Madrid legend Raul and former Manchester United ace Wayne Rooney, he became one of the youngest players to ever achieve the feat.

Haaland is the son of former Leeds United player Alf-Inge Haaland, and was born in the city when his father was playing at Elland Road, which we imagine is the reason why the youngster still has an affinity towards the promotion-chasing side.

Indeed, there are no immediate plans to break into Real Madrid or Barcelona, nor any of the other typical European giants aspiring stars seem to obsess over. Instead, the Norwegian wants to emulate the footsteps of his father and don the white of Leeds.

Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Speaking to Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten in 2017, Haaland said, via Leeds-Live: “I want to be the best possible.

“The dream is to win the Premier League with Leeds. In addition, the goal is to become a better player than my dad was. I hope to get more caps than he did.â€

It may have been two years ago, and the desire to make himself a hero around West Yorkshire may not be burning quite so intensely with the Whites in the second-tier, but his stats make for a very exciting read…

Leeds United Roundup: Bielsa on Bamford & Nketiah, Hernandez out, Costa in, Edmondson offers declined

In today’s Leeds United roundup we take a look at what news has been making the headlines for the Whites. Helder Costa looks set to start his first Championship game for the club with Pablo Hernandez out, Marcelo Bielsa clears up why Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah do not start together, and reports suggest the club are to deny loan bids for Ryan Edmondson unless they find themselves a new forward.

Bielsa on Bamford and Nketiah

Report: As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa will not start Bamford and Nketiah up top for the Whites, as he suggests he may have to sacrifice a midfielder to do so. The Argentine said: “Patrick gives things to the team Eddie can also give. Patrick is a goal scorer, Eddie as well. Their difference in style is not too big because both of them can fill the position with the same efficiency.

“Patrick’s initial advantage over Eddie is he has more time with us, more experience and he is older than Eddie. What you are talking about, this polemic, is one of the things supporters like and the press like as well.

“If Bamford doesn’t play, you will ask why Nketiah does play, and if they both play you ask why Klich or Forshaw doesn’t play.

“It’s difficult to answer this polemic. This talk about different situations and that is fair and is nice. Sometimes, the reality offers space for this polemic. Sometimes this polemic is over the reality. What nobody can complain about is the winning.”

Verdict: Indeed, it does seem that if Bamford and Nketiah are to start together, a man from the midfield must be dropped. Like they did against Derby, Leeds have set up in a five man midfield a lot this season and considering they boast the best defence in the Championship, it would be surprising to see Bielsa alter the backline and therefore probably sacrifice a midfielder for Nketiah instead.

This in itself is a tough decision, considering Kalvin Philipps has played every minute so far, whilst Adam Forshaw and Mateusz Klich have averaged a 6.83 rating and 7.03 respectively, with even academy graduate Jamie Shackleton giving the boss some food for thought lately, playing four times so far and starting against the Rams.

There is also the fact the Arsenal loanee has scored twice from coming off the bench in the league, whilst Bamford has netted four times from a starting role. So, perhaps using Nketiah as a ‘super-sub’ would be wiser anyway.

Costa to start against Charlton

Report: As told in his pre-match press conference, Bielsa spoke on how it is time for Costa to make his first start for his new club. He said: “Pablo Hernandez is not going to play, he has a muscular problem. He felt that warming up in the last match and today it is not good.

“He is not well enough to play. It is Helder Costa who will play. Costa is prepared, he is ready, I can not say I am happy because people will think I am happy Pablo is not playing! I am happy that if it’s not Pablo then it’s Helder!”

Shackleton also spoke about ex-Wolves man: “Helder gives everything in training, he has been on the bench and if you slot him in things don’t look disjointed and hopefully add a bit more. He is brilliant one on one,” said the 19-year-old.Verdict: Costa signed from Wolves in the summer for a deal which will see him stay at the club until 2024, but so far has had to play each of the eight Championship games from the bench, seeing just 168 minutes. The 25-year-old brings with him proven experience and quality in the second tier. In his first season with the Wanderers, he bagged 10 goals and eight assists and the next year played a huge role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League, scoring five times and providing six assists (as per WhoScored).Although, the Portuguese international will come in as a replacement for Hernandez, who will undoubtedly be missed. The Spaniard has continued his red hot form from the last two seasons which has seen him win consecutive Player of the Year awards, after slotting home two goals and pitching in with two assists this campaign. However, his replacement in Costa is a healthy addition considering his track record in this league, which saw him win the Wolves Player of the Year during their Championship campaign of 2016-17.Whites set to decline offers for EdmondsonReport: According to Football Insider, 18-year-old Edmondson is the subject of strong interest from League One and Two sides, but the Whites are unwilling to loan him out in January unless they bring in a forward themselves. The report suggests Bielsa sees the teenager as a backup to Bamford and Nketiah, should either of them be unavailable.Verdict: It is always a wise decision to keep as many players as you can in the Championship, as clubs play 46 times in the competition and juggle FA Cup and League Cup duties, with even perhaps the possibility of the play-offs at the end of the season. It is also important to remember that Bamford – who has so far started every game – has struggled with injuries in recent years, missing 22 games last season alone, whilst Nketiah is only now adjusting to first-team football at the age of 20.Leeds are currently playing with just the one up top, and if Bamford were to be sidelined, the Bielsa would be low in the department. It is, therefore, a wise move to keep hold of Edmondson for the remainder of the campaign.

Everton fans criticise Lucas Digne display

[ad_pod ]

Everton fans have criticised Lucas Digne for his performance against Manchester City on Saturday.

The Toffees lost 3-1 to the Premier League champions in a pulsating game at Goodison Park.

Digne has been something of a creative force from defence already this season, providing two assists in the Premier League, while also scoring and assisting in the Carabao Cup.

However, he struggled against City, winning just two tackles out of an attempted five, per WhoScored, while also being dribbled past on three occasions.

Digne also failed to complete a dribble and was also unable to win an aerial duel.

While he did complete two key passes, he was run ragged by Riyad Mahrez as Marco Silva’s men again went without a win – they have now lost three successive games in the league.

And fans on Twitter and social media certainly noticed his troubles.
